Dear friends and physiology colleagues,
In the last congress, that took place in Cadiz (September 2018), Spanish Society of Physiological Sciences put their trust in us to organize the next SECF Congress (XL CONGRESS OF THE SPANISH SOCIETY OF PHYSIOLOGICAL SCIENCES: joint meeting between Spanish and Portuguese physiologists) in Extremadura, specifically in a lovely city called Badajoz from September 21st to 24th, 2020.
Although this request took us by surprise, we made an enthusiastic commitment to organize it, being both a challenge and an honour. It has been 21 years after a SECF congress took place in Extremadura, so we will try our best to maintain the high science and sociocultural level accomplished in previous meetings. From September 21st to 24th in Badajoz we will try to combine Science and Spanish-Portuguese fraternization, as well as good environment and fun. As we organize the congress with our Portuguese neighbours, we hope to bond physiology groups of both nationalities and enrich the congress in a scientific and personal way. But, the most important thing we need to be able to make a remarkable and unforgettable congress is all of you, attendants. We are waiting for you with open arms, so welcome. Bienvenidos. Bem Vindo.
To accomplish our aims, we request your help to prepare the scientific program which is made up of plenary lectures, symposiums (we encourage you to make suggestions) and communication sending (oral and poster). We also want to give the opportunity to students to present their final degree/master projects both in poster format and oral communication in a specific session. Our intention is to achieve the most suitable environment to be able to debate from the simplest physiological processes to the most integrative, promoting those that can apply the basic findings to the problems of society.
The scientific program will be complemented with social events in the evenings which will include Spanish-Portuguese tourism and gastronomy. All attendants can participate in these activities that are included in the price of the inscription. We will also celebrate the traditional gala dinner and will try to get an optimum price that allows the assistance of anyone who wants it.
Badajoz is one of the least explored places of Spain but it has a relevant touristic attraction that should be taken more seriously and not only like a crossing point. There are some amazing things to visit, you will see. We have for example the beautiful Plaza Alta where the markets took place under its arches during the Middle Ages and also the Alcazaba (which means citadel), a fortification made by Muslims that is said to be the largest in Europe and one of the largest in the world, taking into account the perimeter of its walls. The bastioned wall that we can see in Badajoz is a military fortification formed by different defensive elements such as forts, towers, moats, etc. We can also stand out the gorgeous Holy Metropolitan Cathedral Church, next to the City Hall in Plaza de España, The Plaza de la Soledad with amazing buildings and the Hermitage of the Virgen de la Soledad, the Patron Saint of the city. Badajoz is also the “bridges city”, with its 4 bridges over the Guadiana river which it has fantastic banks and gardens where you can walk and do sports. Badajoz is located in a strategic crossing very close to the border with Portugal, and between the roads that link Castilla with Andalucía, and it is also an eminently commercial city. In fact, the commerce in our city surprises those who visit it.
We hope to let yourself be convinced and not to hesitate to come to Badajoz to participate in the XL SECF Congress from September 21st to 24th, 2020.
We are waiting for you in Badajoz. We are sure that with your presence it will be an exceptional congress. See you!
